It has the largest capacity in the province of Malaga with 170 cubic hectometres, for a maximum reservoir height of 230 metres. It covers the valley that separates La Vi\u00f1uela from Los Romanes, and the surface area of the basin regulated by the River Guaro is 119 km2.
