Along the way, you can take in views of much of the region, La Maroma and the spectacular Almanchares River gorge, as well as the farmland bordering the Natural Park.

It is recommended that you start the route in the village centre and walk up the steep streets until you reach the irrigation channel, which will run alongside you for much of the walk. The path winds its way through terraced fields supported by stone walls, small vegetable gardens, fruit trees and olive trees.

Heading eastwards, running parallel to the road, we’ll enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Axarquía, a number of coastal towns, the sea and La Maroma. One of the distinctive features of this route is the presence of water for much of the way.

Along the path we’ll see pine trees, mountain scrub and numerous plant species, such as thyme, esparto grass, jaguarzo and gorse. After passing Cañada de la Arena, we’ll reach El Albercón, where much of the water used to irrigate the fields is collected. From there, a steep climb begins.

Further on, the terrain levels out and we reach the area around Cerro de Juan Zamora, crossing the La Mina ravine and passing the ruins of an old country house and a fountain. Following the irrigation channel, we’ll reach a viewpoint overlooking the La Rahije recreation area.

If we walk in silence, we may spot mountain goats, as well as eagles, vultures and other mountain birds. It is also common to come across traces of wild boar.

The most spectacular part of the route is the Almanchares River gorge, known as El Saltillo. Its impressive vertical walls and the depth of the gorge offer unforgettable views. However, this section is narrow and features significant changes in elevation, so extreme caution is required. It is not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo.

From here, we can either return along the same route or carry on to the riverbed, where we’ll find small pools of crystal-clear water. There are also other routes to follow, although some sections require experience, suitable equipment and, in certain cases, prior authorisation.

https://saltillocanillas.com/

["post-4775","naturaleza-y-turismo","type-naturaleza-y-turismo","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
