The current Torre del Mar Bus Station was formerly the station of the Malaga suburban railway company, a company with Belgian capital that operated until the end of the 1960s. Its fa\u00e7ade preserves a historicist style with a careful masonry of hexagonal blocks. The two-storey main building housed the railway offices and the waiting room, while the two lower side buildings served as housing for the employees. Its green glazed tile roofs stand out.<\/p>\n
The railway, inaugurated in 1908, connected Malaga with Torre del Mar, later reaching V\u00e9lez and extending as far as Ventas de Zafarraya. To overcome the steepest sections, it used a rack and pinion system, with a third toothed rail that prevented the train from sliding downhill. Next to the station there was an old goods dock and a branch line that connected with the Sugar Factory for the transport of products.
