{"id":4231,"date":"2025-06-03T13:10:30","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T11:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/?post_type=que-hacer&#038;p=4231"},"modified":"2026-08-03T13:07:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T11:07:49","slug":"mazmullar-cistern","status":"publish","type":"que-hacer","link":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/que-hacer\/aljibe-de-mazmullar\/","title":{"rendered":"Mazm\u00fallar Cistern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the Mesa de Mazm\u00fallar, we can find\u00a0<strong>a cistern\u00a0<\/strong>declared Arab <strong>National Historic and Artistic Monument<\/strong> in 1931, based on the description of it provided by Mr Rodrigo Amador de los R\u00edos, a structure dating from the 11th\u201313th centuries AD, consisting of an elegant gallery of horseshoe arches.<\/p>\n<p>It is situated, as we say, in a deserted area known as the <strong>Mazm\u00fallar Plateau<\/strong> which can be reached after an hour\u2019s walk.<\/p>\n<p>This cistern <strong>it is rectangular in shape<\/strong> and is divided into nine compartments by four cruciform piers and a horseshoe-shaped cone supporting elongated ribbed vaults. <strong>It measures 7.7 by 5.7 metres.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also on Cerro de Mazm\u00fallar <strong>there are the remains of a city<\/strong> dating from the 9th to the 10th centuries, destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. It is known to have been one of Omar Ben Hafsun\u2019s main defensive strongholds; indeed, it was such an important site that the Mesa de Mazmullar, near Comares, is identified as the capital of that kingdom during the early period of the Cordoban Caliphate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":4232,"template":"","class_list":["post-4231","que-hacer","type-que-hacer","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/que-hacer\/4231","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/que-hacer"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/que-hacer"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/4232"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4231"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
