{"id":4427,"date":"2025-06-18T11:33:54","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T09:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/?post_type=que-hacer&#038;p=4427"},"modified":"2026-07-31T13:45:50","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T11:45:50","slug":"church-of-san-pedro-and-minaret-tower","status":"publish","type":"que-hacer","link":"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/que-hacer\/iglesia-de-san-pedro-y-torre-alminar\/","title":{"rendered":"St Peter\u2019s Church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another example of Sayalonga\u2019s religious architecture is the\u00a0<em>the Mudejar church of San Pedro, situated in the hamlet of Corumbela. <\/em>In the square stands the Mudejar-style church dedicated to Saint Peter, the town\u2019s patron saint, which was built in the early 16th century; after a period during which it was closed, it was reopened in 1893.<\/p>\n<p>It was built on the site of a mosque, of which the following remains: <a href=\"https:\/\/turismoaxarquiacostadelsol.com\/en\/what-to-do\/mudejar-minaret-of-corumbela\/\">minaret<\/a>, which was built in the 14th century in the style of the minarets of \u00c1rchez or Salares, constructed of thick flat stones interspersed with courses of brick and of great beauty. The Christians adapted the tower, converting it into a bell tower. The church has a single nave covered by a coffered ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>The parishioners have a deep devotion to the <strong>Christ of Forgiveness<\/strong>, in whose honour a solemn triduum is held on the first weekend in May.
