A 16th-century church, renovated in the 19th century, featuring a tower topped with a pyramidal ceramic finial. The influence of Islamic art can still be seen in its tiles and in the decorative spheres, which are reminiscent of the Islamic yamur or the finial of a mosque\u2019s minaret. A renovation in the nineteenth century transformed it into a Neoclassical style.<\/p>\n
The church has three naves with six bays, the central nave being the tallest and widest, separated by semicircular arches, which rest on pillars on the fronts of which are pilasters with recesses.
\nThe major renovations it underwent in the mid-19th century transformed it, both inside and on its fa\u00e7ades, into a Neoclassical church. These works were spearheaded by the Vele\u00f1o lawyer, Don Federico Vahey,<\/strong> who served as Minister of Grace and Justice under Isabel II, and who commissioned the construction of the funeral chapel dedicated to Saint Frederick, now known as the Chapel of the Cristo de los Vig\u00edas. The Civil War deprived this church of important Baroque sculptures.
\nOn the high altar there is a large altarpiece of excellent quality, painted by Francisco Hern\u00e1ndez from V\u00e9lez, depicting a triumphant, risen Jesus surrounded by the four evangelists.<\/p>\n
