Playa Barranco de Maro

Description

Está situada en la desembocadura del Barranco de Maro y solo se puede llegar a ella a pie a través del barranco anteriormente citado.

Se accede a ella pasado el kilómetro 294 de la N-340 dirección Nerja-Almería, entrando a la antigua carretera nacional justo antes del comienzo de una curva. Siguiendo unos 300 metros, nos desviamos a la izquierda, antes de pasar el puente, y bajamos por un carril que desciende por el Barranco de Maro. Al llegar a un apero (caseta de herramientas) el camino se transforma en una senda y en la que nos vemos rodeados por cañaveras y cultivos subtropicales.

Debemos proseguir por la margen izquierda hasta llegar a una construcción desde la que parte la senda que desciende hasta esta bonita y pequeña cala de cantos rodados.

Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Chapel

The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, dating from the 17th century, is a Baroque style temple which houses the image of the patron saint of Nerja.
It has a single nave topped with a barrel vault. The dome contains paintings from the 18th century Granada school. It has a simple belfry protruding from the nave, and in the dome there are frescoes possibly attributed to the Granada school of Alonso Cano, alluding to Pentecost.

San Antonio Abad sugar mill

Nerja, Malaga

El Ingenio de “San Antonio Abad” fue el primer ingenio azucarero de Nerja. Se tiene constancia que trabajaba a pleno rendimiento allá por el 1595, siendo propiedad de Juan de Briones, y ha permanecido en funcionamiento hasta el siglo XIX. Este ingenio fue comprado por los Larios en 1872.

The remains of this sugar factory are of special interest due to the decorative engravings found on one of its walls, which include aquatic and naval motifs. There are also remains of the mill that was attached to it, known as Tablones.

El Salvador Church

Nerja, Malaga

De estilo barroco andaluz y mudéjar, la iglesia de El Salvador fue erigida en el siglo XVI y reformada con posterioridad. El templo consta de tres naves, una con armadura mudéjar.

Su fachada está marcada por una torre con campanario ortogonal. Del interior destacan los frescos de la escuela granadina del siglo XVIII y un mural de la Anunciación de Francisco Hernández.

Watchtowers

Nerja preserves a group of five watchtowers used by both the Nasrids and the Castilian reconquerors to defend the coast. Dating from between the 16th and 18th centuries, they have undergone various reconstructions depending on the military needs of the time.

Sculpture in homage to the discoverers of the Nerja Cave

Work made by the Spanish painter and sculptor Francisco Martín Molina in 2010. It is a sculpture in homage to the 5 boys who discovered the Nerja Cave in 1959, it is located in the Paseo Balcón de Europa.
