Description

The Casa Museo de El Valdés is a private initiative that aims to recover and conserve the cultural and artistic roots of the region. Its builder, Antonio Montañez, has brought together a worthy representation of the art of the Axarquia: from farm implements that have now disappeared and the most genuine floor tiles from the 19th century, to a wide representation of Axarquia's painters and sculptors. In addition, the Axarquia House Museum pays an emotional tribute to the stonemasons' collective, with the creation of a children's playground with ceramics and figures that allude to the work of the stonemasons and the influence they had in shaping the landscape of the village.

Antonio Montañez has used his talent to transform these materials into a work of art that pays homage to the land and local craftsmanship. The house was built as a tribute to its roots and to showcase local craftsmanship, especially ceramics.

Hoya de los Muertos and Cuesta de la Matanza

In the vicinity of Moclinejo, the Hoya de los Muertos and the Cuesta de la Matanza are well worth a visit. They were the scene of the defeat of the Christian troops of the Adelantado de Antequera in their attempt to take these lands from the Arabs.

According to some historians, the name Moclinejo is derived from the Arabic word "Moclin", which means "place of district".

The municipality of Moclinejo was the scene of an important historical event in the development of the conquest, which gave its name to the Hoya de los Muertos or Cuesta de Matanza. In 1483, Mulay Hacen was dethroned from Granada and took refuge in the castle. The Arabs' provocative attitude upset the Christians, who tried to teach him a lesson, but the Arabs attacked with force from above and decimated the Christian army. The triumph gave Mulay Hacen great prestige.

El Manchón de las Minas

Antonio Muñoz Cabrera Winery Museum (Dimobe)

The Antonio Muñoz Cabrera Winery (Dimobe) is located in the centre of the village of Moclinejo, next to the Plaza de España. It is divided into 3 rooms where you can see how the way of making wine in the Axarquía has evolved from 1927 to the present day.
Dimobe is a family winery founded in 1927, with the whole family dedicated to viticulture and winemaking. Its founder Juan Muñoz Navarrete began the tradition with seven small oak casks, making a respected name for himself in the world of sweet bulk wine in the Axarquía region of Málaga.

They currently have a wide variety of wines, recognised with important awards.

Plaza de España

Moclinejo, Malaga

The Plaza de España is the nerve centre of the town and is where the most notable buildings are located. The Town Hall is located here.

From this emblematic square, you can access the town centre, which is of Arab origin and is laid out in narrow winding streets where the façades of some of the houses house images of saints.
