Torre del Homenaje and the Alcazaba

It is located at the highest point of the municipality. It was built in the eighth century, in the thirteenth and thirteenth centuries it acquired special prominence and in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries it became one of the most important in the Nasrid kingdom. It pays homage to the Moorish Alcazaba, which was restored in 1970. Its great importance led King Zagal to defend it personally against King Ferdinand, using it as a royal house, captaincy, prison and Town Hall.
