ANDALUSÍ MINARET OF DAIMALOS

ANDALUSÍ MINARET OF DAIMALOS

Daimalos (Arenas)
The 13th-century minaret of Daimalos is one of the oldest minarets on the peninsula. It has a square floor plan and was built with masonry and brick. It consists of four sections of different heights. The last is possibly the top of the old minaret, which was replaced by the bell tower. Its interior consists of a narrow staircase around a central pillar where only the muezzin who called to prayer could fit. The latest restoration of the parish building uncovered the blind pointed horseshoe arches and the squares of bricks and brickwork that decorate its sides, as well as the entrance door with alfiz of the old mosque.
