ANDALUSÍ MINARET OF CORUMBELA

ANDALUSÍ MINARET OF CORUMBELA

Corumbela (Sayalonga)
The minaret of Corumbela was built in the 13th-14th centuries. After the conquest in 1487, like the rest of the minarets in the region, it was converted into a bell tower. It has a square floor plan and is made of thick stone masonry alternating with courses of bricks. Inside the tower are the staircases that surround a central tower with half-barrel vaults, which the muezzin used to climb to make the adhan or call to prayer. It was last restored in 2002.
