The existence of a fortress in Salares is confirmed by a recent study based on the presence of architectural elements which, due to their structure and layout, form part of a fortress lost in time and used for domestic buildings when the defensive system was no longer necessary. We can recognise it through the tall, solid, square elements that can only be defensive towers or bastions, and the wall-house, a type of Nasrid house directly related to defence. It is similar to other Andalusian fortresses and citadels.
