ANDALUSÍ MINARET OF ÁRCHEZ

ANDALUSÍ MINARET OF ÁRCHEZ

Archez
It is a minaret of spectacular beauty. It was built in the 13th-14th centuries. It has a square floor plan and is 15 m high. It is made of red brick and consists of four sections. It was part of the local mosque that was converted into a church. Its upper part was replaced by the current bell tower. It is richly decorated with vegetal polychrome sebka panels, a ribbon of blue tiles on a white background, and interlaced horseshoe arches with geometric polychrome on the inside. Inside is the staircase that surrounds a central square pillar, which the muezzin used to climb for the adhan or call to prayer.
