ALQUERÍA DE CÚTAR

ALQUERÍA DE CÚTAR

Cútar
There are references to Cútar (Aqut or Aquta in Arabic) and its fortress since the 10th century. During the Nasrid period and until the conquest of 1487 it was part of the Taha (territorial division) of Comares. It had important fountains and mills, and has preserved its Andalusian town planning in which a beautiful algorfa and some houses with courtyards stand out, such as that of the alfaqi Muhammad Al-Yayyar, owner of the Nasrid manuscripts that were found in 2003 and in which it can be read: “The alfaqi Muhammad b. Alí al-Yayyar entered as the first al-Mu'aqi. Ali al-Jayyar entered the mosque of the farmstead of Cútar as imam in the Taha de Comares at the beginning of the Generous Ramadan of the year 895/9 (August 1490)”.
