TOWER AND FARMSTEAD OF GRANADILLAS OR ALBENDA

TOWER AND FARMSTEAD OF GRANADILLAS OR ALBENDA

Rincón de la Victoria
This was an Andalusian farmhouse to the west of the river Granadillas, defended by a strong tower that served as a defence and refuge for the population of the farmhouse in case of danger. The tower, known as Albenda, is located next to the stream of the same name and has a square base with an open interior. It was built with masonry and brick from the 11th century onwards and gained importance from the 13th century onwards with the decline of Bizyliana. The farmhouse and tower form an important archaeological site, which also contains the remains of a necropolis.
