Periana

Description

Located in the Axarquia region of Malaga, it is renowned for its rich agricultural tradition, particularly the production of extra virgin olive oil of the verdial variety and high quality peaches. These agricultural activities are fundamental to the local economy and culture.

The municipality celebrates various festivities that reflect its cultural identity, such as 'Cultural November', an event that has been extended in duration and number of activities, including workshops, conferences, book presentations, theatre, flamenco, excursions and convivial days.

In addition, the 'Generación del 27' Cultural Centre, inaugurated in March 2024 in the old Town Hall, serves as the epicentre of cultural life, hosting events and activities that promote community participation.

The historical heritage of Periana is manifested in monuments such as the Church of San Isidro Labrador, in neo-Mudejar style, and the Baños de Vilo, ancient Arab baths with sulphurous waters with therapeutic properties. These traditions and monuments, together with its natural surroundings, make up the cultural essence of Periana.
