The gastronomy of Arenas is rich and varied, it is the typical gastronomy of the inland villages of the Axarquia, where the great jewel is the virgin olive oil of our land. Among its dishes we can emphasize the "desayuno arriero", cod with virgin olive oil, goat with garlic, kid in wine, cabbage and fennel stew and goat meat with almond sauce, always accompanied with a good local muscatel wine. The popular gastronomy is based on meat, but visitors can also taste the migas accompanied by olives and herrings, gazpacho, ajoblanco (cold soup), and tripe. Also pestiños, roscos de huevo and roscos de vino al horno.
The introduction of numerous subtropical crops (avocados, custard apples, custard apples, mangoes, papayas, etc.) and greenhouse crops in the Axarquia region has brought a great richness to the traditional gastronomy.
