Alcaucín

Alcaucín is much more than just its impressive natural environmentIts urban layout and monuments reflect centuries of history and traditions. Strolling through its streets is like stepping into a andalusí legacywith narrow, winding streets characteristic of the White Villages of Malaga.

This village enjoys a privileged setting at the foot of the Sierras de Tejera and Alhama with a natural park. This has led this white village to be known as the "Alcaucín Natural Paradise".. Visitors can visit the Fuente de los Cinco Caños fountain or enjoy its many festivities throughout the year, such as Easter Week. Interpretation Centre

Alcaucín is a reference of great cultural interest, its vestiges and prehistoric findings from the Neanderthal period to other more recent archaeological testimonies are shown in the Centro de Interpretación Valle de Alcaucín (CIVA).

The new cultural space CIVA is an exhibition dedicated to the Neanderthals where visitors can find replicas of skeletal remains found in the excavations of the cave located on the border with Granada, models of Neanderthal families and information panels.

The CIVA has 600 square metres divided into two floors. One, the prehistory, dedicated to the discoveries at the site of the Boquete de Zarafarraya Cave in Alcaucín; and another one called Alcaucín, border territory'. which bears witness to different historical periods that have left their mark on the town, which has barely 2,500 registered residents, including the castle of Zalia and the Alcázar Fortress.
