Salares is a destination that exudes history and authenticity, it is one of the most beautiful villages in the whole region. The name Salares began with the Romans as they were attracted by the exploration of a salt mine. In some recent studies it was known at that time as Salaria Bastitanorum.

Salares is drawn between ravines, the layout of its streets and the architecture of its whitewashed houses give it a unique identity, forming part of the Mudejar Route. Apart from the splendid mountain scenery that surrounds it and the beauty of the village as a whole, the most interesting feature is the Church of Santa Ana, above all for its Minaret tower declared Historic-Artistic Monument in 1979.

Among the most curious natural sites in Salares you can visit a fountain known as the AlbarráThe water flows very cold in summer and hot in winter. Another emblematic place is the Cerro del Puerto, being the highest peak in the jurisdiction. Other places of interest to visit are the ovens of the Moors, the Moorish bridge and the Sierra de Almijara. Ideal for photography, hiking, off-road vehicle tours or simply for hiking, breathe fresh air.

Arab-Andalusian Festival

Salares forms part of the famous Mudejar route. Strolling through its streets we can discover its marked Moorish past. Although the passage of other cultures, such as the Romans, is still evident, this civilisation has been completely erased by the Arabic imprint, The village's layout was left behind by the tower of a Mudejar fortress, under the protection of which the town was gradually shaped.

Salares transforms itself by reviving its Andalusian past with its traditional Arab Andalusian Festival, a three-day festival whose frame of reference is the Andalusian culture and which has been declared a Tourist Interest by the Provincial Council of Malaga. 

Salares pays homage to its former inhabitants, turning its streets into a Moorish village with its souk and its inhabitants dressed in typical costumes. You can visit its souk of handicrafts and organic farming. Enjoy music, poetry, painting and history. Delight in its rich gastronomy or stroll through its streets and discover its rich architectural heritage.
