La Viñuela

The Church of San José stands out, the most outstanding feature being its age, as it was built in the 16th century. Other unique buildings in the municipality are the hermitage of the Virgen de las Angustias and a 19th century oil mill. On the other hand, Viñuela has three archaeological sitesone on the hill of the asperones, another in the castillejos and a third in the herrera workshop.

There is a medicinal water spring at the nearby Chiliano fountain.

Tradition, Flavour and Charm in the Heart of Axarquia

In the heart of the Axarquia region you will find the reservoir with the largest capacity in the province of Malaga, with 170 cubic hectometres. It is known as El Pantano de La Viñuela and forms part of the defining landscape of this municipality. A village that can no longer imagine itself without this reservoir that has boosted the area so much.
It was built in 1986 to channel the waters of the river Vélez. Specifically, it is located in the Cauce del río Guaro but also collects water from its tributaries, such as the Salia, Benamargosa, Bermuza, Rubite and the Llano de Zafarraya stream.
It's a great place to spend the day with the family doing water sports, hiking, hiking, etc. or simply enjoying a good barbecue.
