The village, sheltered by the Sierras of Tejeda and Almijara, offers the traveller the contrast between the traditional image of such areas and the adaptation to the new times.
This municipality offers two different areas: on the one hand the villagelocated a few kilometres from the coast in the upper part of the valley of the river of the same name and which conserves the typical physiognomy of the white villages of Arab origin and whose main activity is the modern agriculture of greenhouses and subtropical products. On the other hand, its line of coast destined for sun and beach tourism, with abundant hotel facilities and clean, well-kept beaches. In this area there is a lighthouse in the vicinity of which there are important archaeological remains from Roman times.
