Totalán

Totalán lies between the courses of two streams, in the borderlands where the region of the Axarquia and the Mountains of Malaga. Narrow streets and white houses evoke the Al-Andalus past of this village, linked to the figure of the famous flamenco singer Antonio Molina.

Totalán is a picturesque village with narrow streets and white houses adorned with flowers. Its main attraction is a route through the village starting at the Plaza de la Constitución where the Church of Santa Ana stands out, you can also see the Plaza Antonio Molina.

Tradition, Flavour and Charm in the Heart of Axarquia

The most important and characteristic festival in this village in the Axarquía region of the Costa del Sol is the Chanfaina Festival, a festival declared to be of Provincial Tourist Interest.

Chanfaina is the town’s quintessential traditional dish, and it is widely recognised as having been the mainstay of so many farmers who drew strength from it during the gruelling farming seasons.

The ingredients for chanfaina are: potatoes, olive oil, vinegar, garlic, breadcrumbs and a variety of spices: oregano, saffron, pepper, cloves, cumin and bay leaves. If desired, it can be served with slices of meat or black pudding.
