La Viñuela reservoir

Description

Built on the bed of the river Guaro and with contributions from the rivers Salia, Benamargosa, Bermuza, Rubite, and the Madre del Llano de Zafarraya stream. It has the largest capacity in the province of Malaga with 170 cubic hectometres, for a maximum reservoir height of 230 metres. It covers the valley that separates La Viñuela from Los Romanes, and the surface area of the basin regulated by the River Guaro is 119 km2. Its waters supply irrigation in the south of La Axarquía and, if necessary, drinking water for the city of Málaga.
