The area around Alfarnatejo is home to the most spectacular gorges in the province of Malaga, the Gómer, Doña Ana and Alto del Fraile. To the south, in the Tajo Gómer, at an altitude of 1,129 metres, domestic objects have been found which archaeologists attribute to being more than 5,000 years old. It must have been a farmhouse during the Muslim domination that was born in the heat of the castle of Sabar, the ruins of which are still preserved at the top of the Alto del Fraile. The Tajo de Doña Ana is next to the river, almost strangling its path. It is a huge boulder, limestone, greyish, vertical, reaching a height of 1,118 metres. In this landscape there are cereal crops and olive trees, holm oaks and gall oaks that give a brownish colour to the uniform grey of the limestone rock that is flown over by birds of prey that coexist in this marvellous landscape.
