ARRIVAL OF ABEDERRAHMAN I ON THE BURRIANA BEACH OF NERJA

Nerja
Of `Abd-al-Raḥmān I al-Dājil, the first emir of the Umayyad dynasty in the peninsula, it has traditionally been said that he arrived in al-Andalus via Almuñecar in 755, however, thanks to the anonymous source called Fath al-Andalus, we know that he did so via a beach called Bitruh Riyana, which is identified with the current Burriana beach in Nerja. There he was received by Abu Utman Ubayd Allah, who had a house in Torrox and then went to Archidona where he proclaimed the independent Emirate of al-Andalus. The Nerja museum exhibits this story through a video and a panel.
