BIZILYANA (RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA): A QUASI-MEDINA FARMSTEAD

BIZILYANA (RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA): A QUASI-MEDINA FARMSTEAD

Rincón de la Victoria
In the 10th century, Bizilyana is described by Ibn al-Faradi as a bulayda or small village near Malaga. Then in the 12th century, the geographer al-Idrisi mentions it as a quasi-medina farmhouse at sea level, with sandy soil and where there are baths, fishponds and fisheries, and where large and abundant fish were caught... Archaeological work carried out from the 1970s onwards uncovered numerous remains that were largely destroyed. The remains of the floor of the mosque, the foundations of its minaret and its beautiful cistern are preserved inside a private property.
