IBN SAID'S POEM TO NERJA

IBN SAID'S POEM TO NERJA

Nerja
In the 13th century the great historian, geographer and poet Ibn Said visited Nerja. He camped by the river Chillar, where, inspired by the landscape and a festive atmosphere with drinking and dancing, he composed a poem in which he establishes a poetic dialogue with the river about the beauty of the place and the fame of Nerja for its striped ṭirāz (silk embroidery with silver and gold threads). In Nerja, where the striped ṭirāz... I said: ... I stop over a river whose mouth smiles. He said: You hear the sounds... I said: ...of songs that delight.
