MAZMULLAR

MAZMULLAR

Comares
On the plateau of Mazmúllar, near Comares, there is a medieval uninhabited settlement whose remains are those of a city dating from the 9th-10th centuries. It was destroyed at the end of the fitna or rebellion of Omar ben Hafsun. However, it was rebuilt in the 12th century until it was abandoned. The remains of buildings, necropolis and other Christian and Muslim material and cultural elements have been discovered, including a large olive-oil press, a wine press, several cellars, storage silos and small necropolis. There is no epigraphic evidence except for a very valuable foundation stone of a shari'a or oratory, the whereabouts of which, after dating and study, are unknown.
