MOSQUE AND MINARET OF BENAQUE

MOSQUE AND MINARET OF BENAQUE

Benaque
After the conquest of Benaque (in the municipality of Macharaviaya) in 1487, its mosque was converted into the current church. It retains the south-east orientation of the qibla wall. The building is constructed of thick flat stones and rows of bricks. Its tower is the old minaret, to which the bell tower was added. Its interior, like other minarets in Malaga, has a solid central core around which the stairs with stepped vaults are located.
