THE FARMSTEAD OF SAYALONGA

THE FARMSTEAD OF SAYALONGA

Sayalonga
It was a small farmstead, both in terms of population and size. It could be the farmhouse that is mentioned in the work Bughyat al-sālik fī ashraf al-masālik by the 13th century author al-Sahili under the name of Jayr Lunga خير لنغة. There were three bread mills and two oil mills in the village. Its economy was based on the cultivation of cereals, vineyards and olive groves. Its rich orchards and irrigated land supplied it with vegetables, citrus fruits, mulberry and pomegranate trees. After the expulsion of the Moors, it was repopulated with settlers from the town of Antequera.
