In this municipality we find the Archaeological and Monumental Complex of San Pitar:
It was formerly a quarry in the 18th century, from which stones were extracted that were used for the Roman Theatre and the Cathedral of Málaga, the Cervantes House in Vélez, the Phoenician necropolis of Trayamar, as well as for the construction of numerous farmhouses and houses in the area around Torre del Mar. In this archaeological site is the Los Canteros Hermitage, built in 1739, for the spiritual assistance of the stonemasons.
Its name comes from the etymological origin of San Pedro, holy stone and at the same time links with the Mozarabic toponym found in the area of the Comarca de La Axarquía. There is evidence of the first occupation of the place by a Mozarabic monastery which reminds us of the strong Mozarabic Christian influence on San Pedro.
