Maro Tower

Description

It is located to the west of the Vega de Maro on a cape 120 metres above sea level. It was built in the 16th century to reduce the invasions suffered by the farmers and fishermen of the area, as the pirates used this area to capture prisoners and thus enter the territory. It is characterised by its height of 11 metres, with the entrance and the machicolation facing the sea. It served to defend the population of Nerja and Maro from the pirates who invaded the coast, alarming them with smoke during the day and fire at night, and sounding a rapture when a Berber ship was sighted.
