What to do in Cútar, Málaga

La Fuente Street

Calle la Fuente, Cutar, Málaga

This is the main artery of the municipality, running through it from one end to the other, where most of the other streets end, serving as a boundary between the upper and lower districts. It receives its name because it is the road that leads to the Arab Fountain. The pavement is made of pebbles, brick and marble, drawing geometric shapes on the ground.

Algorfa Arabic

C. Rodríguez de la Fuente, 29718 Cútar, Málaga

It is an old Moorish granary, which nowadays connects two streets, and is one of the best examples of the Moorish legacy in the Axarquía.

Museum of the Monfí

Cútar, Málaga

The term "Monfí" refers to the Muslims who, during the forced conversions, abandoned their homes and took refuge in the sierras, becoming outlaws. In Cútar, the Arab and Moorish origins have left a deep imprint, which has been documented in ancient manuscripts found in the village.

These texts, which include a book of trades of the Alfaquí and other personal documents, offer a fascinating insight into life at the time, with details on magic, astronomy, and popular customs. The Monfí Museum in Cútar houses a collection of pieces related to Arab culture, especially focusing on the local history of the Axarquía and the municipality of Cútar.

The parish church of the Virgin of the Incarnation

Cútar, Málaga

The Parish Church of the Virgen de la Encarnación is the main monument of Cútar and stands out for its combination of Mudejar, Baroque and Rococo styles. With three naves separated by brick arches and a wooden ceiling, its architecture reflects the different stages of its history.

The municipality also conserves other elements of interest, such as a fountain of Arab origin and archaeological sites in the Peña de Hierro, which provide evidence of ancient prehistoric settlements in the area.
