Horseback Riding (Rincón de la Victoria)

It is situated in the centre of Benagalbón It was established in 1995 with the aim of preserving our cultural roots and traditions. The museum is essentially divided into two sections: one dedicated to the traditional farmhouse (comprising a living room, kitchen and bedroom) and the other to the household goods and farming implements typical of the area.

It is worth noting that almost all the existing items have been donated by local residents.

The Roman site of Torre de Benagalbón "Villa Antiopa" is an important archaeological enclave which originated in the 8th and 7th centuries BC.Important remains of Phoenician pottery have been found from the first period. A wall in the "opus africanum" style has been preserved from the Republican period, but the most important archaeological remains date from the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th century AD and consist of the following:

– Un thermal complex with their corresponding bathing rooms (frigidarium, caldarium and tepidarium) and latrines. Next to the baths are the remains of a garum factory, a highly prized fish and herb-based sauce that was exported to Rome.

- A luxurious roman villa with thirteen mosaics, including one of Jupiter disguised as a satyr seducing Antiopa, daughter of Thebes. The most valuable piece found is the head of a sculpture of the god Bacchus from the 2nd century AD, made of Italian marble. Other remains found indicate that part of it was used for the manufacture of salted fish.

Rincón de la Victoria has a unique value throughout Europe, the Treasure Cave. It is one of only three known caves of marine origin in the world.. The other two are in Asia and Central America. For all locals, visitors and tourists in Malaga it should be a must-see as history, archaeology and legend come together in the Cueva del Tesoro.

In the galleries of the Cueva del Tesoro, Palaeolithic and Bronze Age remains were found, as well as samples of Rock Art.

Initially there were 3 caves: El Higuerón, El Suizo and La Victoria. After the works, the Cueva del Suizo (Sala del Lago) and the Cueva del Higuerón were joined together in the current Sala de la Virgen. At the end of the 1970s, the most prehistoric section of this union was preserved from the tourist sector, but today it can be visited together with the Cueva de la Victoria, independently from the Cueva del Tesoro itself.

On a comfortable stroll through its cavities, you can enjoy the curious shapes that water has left behind over the millennia. Perhaps, with a bit of luck, you will find the famous treasure that is said to still remain in the cave.

Rincón de la Victoria is home to the Añoreta golf course, the first in La Axarquía, designed by the golfer José María Cañizares. With 18 holes and par 72, it offers a challenging course. In addition, the Añoreta Resort has other facilities such as paddle tennis courts, aquatic and equestrian activities, restaurants and flats. Its proximity to Malaga, the airport and the coast makes it an attractive destination for tourists. The centre also includes the CIAGOLF, a modern training centre. Villa Antiopa, one of the best preserved Roman villas in Andalusia, is located in Torre de Benagalbón, on the shores of the Mediterranean. Intensively restored, it reveals remains from the 3rd century AD, including mosaics, ceramics and movable goods. The villa, dedicated to the Theban princess Antiopa, shows its private quarters, reception rooms, baths and storerooms. Its economy was based on garum and salted fish. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 2008, it is an excellent example of integration between heritage and contemporary construction.
