In 1582, the lawyer Felipe de Armengol acquired the lordship of Maro and decided to establish the cultivation of sugar cane and the creation of the first sugar mill in the town. It remained in operation until a fire in the sixties of the 19th century brought it to a standstill. Although it has undergone renovations, part of the solid original work is still preserved, made of remarkable travertine ashlars that form solid walls, openings and semicircular arches, as well as the characteristic buttress or "pie de amigo" that supports it on the side of the ravine.
