Cascade Gardens

Since 2016, Totalan has had the Casa Papalos Museum in a house renovated by the Town Hall in the centre of the village. It is located in Hermanos Papalos street. In this museum we will find the recreation of a traditional rural house of the 19th century, with the customs and ways of life of yesteryear.

Inaugurated in 2009, the Paseo de la Salud in Totalán connects the centre of the village with the most populated areas, such as Los Baltasares and Los Castillos. It is 1.3 kilometres long and is designed to encourage physical activity among citizens, offering facilities such as lampposts, litter bins, fountains and ceramic murals. One of its murals offers a view of the town from the Algarrobo viewpoint. The works, which began in November 2005 and finished in July 2009, had an investment of 161,496 euros, thanks to the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación de Málaga and the Town Hall.

The Torre del Violín and the Mirador del Zagal, built in 2010 by the Town Hall and the Junta de Andalucía, are located in the centre of the village. This space includes a viewing plaza, a ceramic mosaic and a tower with exhibition rooms. The tower commemorates the victory of El Zagal in 1483 over the Christian army on its way to Malaga. The exhibition halls host cultural and festive events, and from the top of the tower you can enjoy panoramic views of the village and its natural surroundings.

The Salazar Tower, located 2,453 metres south of the town of Totalán, on the MA-3110 road, is a structure of Arab-Andalusian origin dating from the 11th century. It served as a watchtower, forming part of a line of lookout points along the coast. It is a defensive beacon of rectangular shape, with walls that reach between 9 and 10 metres in height. In 2009, it was restored by the Junta de Andalucía with an investment of 67,422 euros, carrying out structural consolidation work, repairing walls and improving protection against rain.

The Cerro de la Corona dolmen, known as the "Moor's tomb", is a funerary structure dating from the 4th and 3rd millennium BC, located some 600 metres from the town of Totalán. It is a megalithic monument made up of vertical slabs and a horizontal slab that served as a roof. Human remains and fragments of pottery were found in the studies carried out. It is a collective burial of at least ten people, with associated work artefacts and ceramics. To reach the dolmen, it is necessary to walk a few metres following the signs, from where you can enjoy views of the municipality and its surroundings.

The Church of Santa Ana, built between 1505 and 1510, is the oldest and most outstanding building in the town centre of the municipality. Its current appearance dates from a 17th century remodelling. The church has two naves, a central nave and a side nave, separated by an arcade of semicircular arches supported by Tuscan columns of red marble. Its wooden coffered ceiling and bell tower of Mudejar influence stand out, with a quadrangular floor plan, a hipped roof and a weather vane at its apex.
