Inaugurated in 2019, this work by the sculptor Francisco Martín recalls "Chanquete", the popular character from the TV series "Verano Azul", filmed in Nerja in the early 80s.
The actor Antonio Ferrándiz played this endearing character, an old sailor who lived on a ship stranded on land, "La Dorada", where a group of teenagers spend their holidays. The friendship that unites them makes them spend an unforgettable summer.
Throughout the series, Chanquete stars in moments that have been engraved in the collective imagination of several generations, such as the famous "Chanquete is dead" scene or "they won't move us from Chanquete's boat".
The statue is made of bronze and the plaque reads: "In homage to Chanquete, the old fisherman of that Verano Azul, in Nerja we want to remember you always near the sea, our sea".
It is located in a viewpoint with its name, situated between the beaches of El Salón and La Caletilla, on a pleasant promenade that runs along the shores of the famous Balcón de Europa.
