Pico de Vilo Trail

Description

Distance: 11.2km (l/r - linear route) / Duration: 4h / Difficulty: medium-high

We start the route next to the municipal sports centre "El Ejido".
We continue along a dirt track for approximately 1 km. At the bottom right we can contemplate excellent views of Alfarnate, surrounded by impressive mountains: Sierra de San Jorge, Tajo de la Palomera, Cerro del Castillejo.

The track runs on stony, limestone terrain, with almond trees, holm oaks and other bushes in the surrounding area. On the way up the first steep slope we come to a television repeater at the top of the Morrón del Aguila. From this point we can see Alfarnate and Alfarnatejo. In front and to the left we can see the Sierra del Jobo mountain range crowned by the Pico de Chamizo, as well as the Morrones de Carrasco, Matagallar, El Torcal and El Cuartillo. We continue our ascent to the left along a path that skirts the Morrón del Gallo (1,363 m). From here we can see the Tajos del Fraile, de Gómer and Doña Ana on our right.

After more than 3 kilometres we come to a fork in the right-hand lane that leads to the Cortijo del Alguacil. We continue to the left towards a pine forest. The path narrows further on and we enter a path that leads us to the next point of reference: a beautiful threshing floor with huge stones embedded in the ground.
100 metres further up we come to a fence that we will have no difficulty overcoming. We continue between pines and bushes along the wider path without losing sight of the metal fence on our right until we see a very rocky area with little vegetation that we border around to the left.
From the morrón we start the final ascent to the peak of Vilo (1,415 m).

Once there, we start our way back along the same route but in a descending direction.
