Macharaviaya is marking this anniversary in recognition of the prominent role it played Bernardo de Gálvez, born in the municipality in 1746, at the time of the United States’ independence. Born in 1746 and appointed governor of Louisiana in 1776, his role was regarded as so crucial to American independence who marched alongside George Washington through the streets of Philadelphia during the victory parade.
The celebrations include historical and military re-enactments, parades, cultural activities and various commemorative events that honour its historical legacy.
The programme is rounded off with tastings of traditional mead, concerts, documentary screenings, an American-style barbecue and a fireworks display.
Declared an Event of Tourist Interest by the Málaga Provincial Council.
