Designated a ‘Provincial Festival of Tourist Distinction’ by the Málaga Provincial Council, the Wine Night is one of the most iconic celebrations in the Axarquía and one of the main tourist attractions of the summer.
The programme combines cultural activities, exhibitions, literary events and performances by artists, alongside flamenco shows, traditional dances and folk performances.
The origins of this festival are linked to the traditional free tasting of wine made from the region’s Muscat grapes, one of Cómpeta’s most iconic products.
Each year’s festival features a commemorative mural dedicated to the celebrations. The festivities include the traditional grape-treading from the fields of Competa in the Plaza de la Vendimia, accompanied by the music of the Competa fandangos, traditional dances, and performances by the Pandas de Verdiales from other towns.
Wine Night also symbolises the the close relationship between the people of Cómpeta and vine-growing, serving as a tribute to agricultural traditions, popular culture and the Muscat wine for which the town is famous.
