The María Zambrano Park in Vélez-Málaga, inaugurated on 4th December 2003, is the largest green space in the municipality, situated in the west of the town in a zone of great expansion. It has a large lawn, large areas of trees and shrubs, all irrigated with water from a well in the park itself. It has a network of paths and trails ideal for walks and sports, such as jogging or gymnastic circuits, and recently sports courts have been built, including two paddle courts, a multi-sports court and changing rooms. The park also has a lake with a landscaped island, water fountain, children's play areas, healthy equipment for the elderly, and eight petanque courts. It is also home to the city's Petanque Club and hosts cultural events such as summer cinema. From the park you can see the sierras of Tejeda and Almijara and the fortress of Vélez-Málaga.
