The Castillo-Fortín is the origin of the present-day town of Torre del Mar. Initially of small dimensions, it served to watch over the coast and protect the boats in its natural harbour. With the advance of the land, the fortification was further away from the sea. In 1730 it was reformed, adopting its current appearance with a second front made up of two curtains joined to a central battery and two towers at the ends, which were already part of the old enclosure. In addition to its military function, the castle served as a warehouse for agricultural products from the region, such as sultanas, wine and citrus fruits, destined for export. Today this castle is an emblematic symbol of the historical origins of Torre del Mar.
