Every first Saturday in September, Almáchar, in the Axarquía region, celebrates its traditional Ajoblanco festival, A cold soup of Arab origin, made with almonds and garlic.
Recognised as Provincial Tourism Festival, this culinary festival brings together thousands of visitors every year to sample the traditional ajoblanco, one of the most iconic dishes of Málaga’s cuisine.
Visitors can enjoy this dish free of charge whilst strolling through the town’s streets, which have been transformed into a veritable open-air museum, showcasing farming tools, trousseaus, ceramics, lace, embroidery and scenes of local life recreated using traditional figures.
The day is rounded off with performances by regional dance groups, rociero choirs, verdiales ensembles and flamenco shows.
