The Riogordo Olive Pressing Festival is an event dedicated to promoting olive oil culture and raising awareness of extra virgin olive oil made from the Verdial variety.
The programme includes numerous activities, including a visit to the premises of the Riogordo Olive Growers’ Cooperative, where a traditional miller’s breakfast is served. In addition, the Municipal Ethnographic Museum hosts talks, theatrical performances relating to olive oil, exhibitions, music and dance shows, olive oil tastings and a culinary competition.
The main event is a re-enactment of a traditional olive-pressing process, in which the olives are pressed using animal power, just as they were in the past.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy local cuisine made with ‘Verdial’ extra virgin olive oil and suckling goat from Málaga in the town’s bars and restaurants.
